 AmangallaGalle The modern and minimalist Amangalla is a perfect base for visitors who want to explore Galle Fort and the city. Amangalla is located within the walls of the fort, and is actually a collection of buildings, some of which date back 400 years. Though the buildings have a rich history, the interior is sleek, with occasional nods to tradition (as with the four-poster beds). Guests choose among four categories of accommodation: Bedrooms, Chambers, Suites, and the ultra-luxurious Garden House. Dark wood floors and furniture contrast with the crisp white walls and linens, while large windows welcome the sunlight and offer expansive views of the lush green foliage outdoors. "The Baths" is a building containing massage treatment rooms, sauna, a steam room, and hydrotherapy pools -- we recommend that you skip the sightseeing one afternoon and, instead, indulge in a treatment and then lounge in one of the deliciously shady cabanas by the pool.

 AmanwellaTangalle This stylish Aman resort stands in a coconut grove on a beautiful crescent-shaped beach close to the cultural village of Tangalle. There are only 30 rooms (Suites and Ocean Suites) at Amanwella -- while the two categories differ because of their location and views, they are identical in layout, with contemporary design and floor-to-ceiling glass and sliding wood paneling, which leaves two sides open to beautiful views and giving direct access to the private plunge pool and terrace. The terrace is well equipped for relaxing in the warm sun, with a dining table, chairs, and double chaise lounge. The best ocean suites have uninterrupted panoramic views of the beach and the coconut groves, and four have connecting doors on the terrace so they are perfect options for families. |
